SERVICES

Helping you create the life you want.

People come to counseling for many different reasons. You may be struggling with something happening in your life right now, carrying the impact of something that happened in the past, or trying to make a change and unsure how to move forward.

I work with adults age 19 and older, providing individual counseling, couples counseling, and EMDR (a treatment for trauma). Our work is shaped by what brings you to counseling, what you hope will be different, and what will be most helpful to you.

INDIVIDUAL

Making sense of where you are and helping you get where you want to go.

You may be going through a difficult time, facing a decision or transition, struggling in a relationship, or finding that old experiences or patterns are affecting your life in ways you would like to change.

Individual counseling gives us the opportunity to understand what is happening, how you got here, and what you need now. Sometimes that means finding ways to cope with circumstances you cannot change. Sometimes it means healing from painful experiences, changing patterns that are no longer serving you, or making decisions about what comes next.

My role is to work alongside you—helping you make sense of what you are feeling, recognize possibilities you may not see yet, and make changes that move you toward a life that feels more meaningful and fulfilling.

COUPLES

Helping you understand each other differently.

Relationships can be a source of connection, comfort, and joy, but they can also become places where we feel hurt, frustrated, disconnected, or misunderstood. Couples sometimes find themselves having the same arguments again and again, struggling to communicate, or unsure how to move forward after something has damaged trust.

In couples counseling, I help you slow down those patterns and better understand what is happening between you. We work on communicating more effectively, navigating conflict, rebuilding trust when it has been damaged, and finding healthier ways to respond to one another.

The goal isn't a relationship without disagreement. It is a relationship in which you can communicate more openly, understand one another more fully, work through difficulties together, and create the kind of relationship you both want.

EMDR

When the past is still affecting the present.

Sometimes an experience is over, but the impact of it isn't. You may find yourself reacting to situations in ways that feel stronger than you expect, avoiding things that remind you of what happened, or continuing to experience fear, distress, or beliefs about yourself that developed during a difficult or traumatic experience.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing experiences so they no longer have the same emotional intensity or influence over your life.

EMDR is not about forgetting what happened or pretending it didn't matter. The goal is for you to be able to remember what happened without continuing to experience it as though it is still happening. https://www.ptsd.va.gov/understand_tx/emdr.asp

I integrate EMDR into counseling when it is appropriate for you and what you are working through. We will talk about what the process involves, whether it makes sense for your needs, and make those decisions together.

REASONS PEOPLE COME TO COUNSELING

You don't have to fit neatly into a category.

People come to counseling with different histories, circumstances, and hopes for their lives. You may be dealing with one particular concern, or several things may be happening at the same time.

I work with adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship and family difficulties, trauma, major life transitions, self-esteem concerns, career or identity questions, infertility-related stress, and challenges related to aging or changing roles. I also have significant experience working with people who have served in the military as well as their dependents for difficulties related to service, deployment, trauma, transition to civilian status and retirement.

You may also come to counseling when nothing is necessarily “wrong,” but you want to understand yourself better, strengthen your relationships, make an important decision, or think more intentionally about what you want your life to look like.

There doesn't have to be a huge crisis to have a reason to come to counseling.
